Tolerance is defining a range on a dimension or spec that can be allowed. Even using the most precise CNC machine, there will be slight deviations during production. Creating the tolerance requires in depth knowledge of how the parts inside a system is fitted together.
A very tight tolerance requires precise machines and experienced personnel, so the pricing will go up. And vice versa.
BILATERAL TOLERANCE
When the tolerannce allows both plus and minus range.
UNILATERAL TOLERANCE
When the tolerance only allows either plus or minus number. Aside from geometric tolerance, there are also tolerance for temperature, hardness, pressure, etc.
